Overview

Do you suffer from an undeveloped patchy mustache or beard? Do you desire a fully-grown dense beard? Natural beard development may not be there in your cards. But the medical world has made it possible via beard transplantation surgery.

Beard transplantation surgery is the most common and permanent solution to increase the density of the beard. You can even hide the scars of any wound or surgery. It is a safe method that gives natural results with no scar on the face. It is just a one-time, permanent, minimally invasive procedure with no side effects.

You need not follow any strict medication regimen. You may not lose your new facial hair after the transplantation.

Is the Beard or Mustache So Important for Males?

Beard growth is powered by the androgen hormone from puberty time onwards. Both testosterone and dihydrotestosterone are the major key players in beard growth. Improper secretion of these hormones leads to undeveloped facial hair. Even ethnicity has got some effect.

Men with Indian backgrounds are more prone to thicker beards and mustaches. White and black-skinned men have moderate facial hair. Asian men comparatively have the least facial hair. Research studies also reveal that men with beards are comparatively stronger, and provide a sense of security.

Now you would have got a clear idea about the importance of beards among males and the significance of Beard and Mustache transplantation.

What precautions should be taken before transplanting?

Any man who lacks a well-developed beard or mustache due to any surgery, injuries, past laser hair removal, or genetic disorders can opt for beard transplantation.

  • Before the beard transplantation surgery, you should follow several precautions like stopping alcohol, aspirin, and anti-inflammatory medications consumption.
  • No caffeine intake on the same day of your surgery, since it can increase bleeding and sensitivity to medications. You are advised to consume a vitamin C tablet once a day for the entire week before the surgery. Vitamin C consumption helps in the healing process.
  • Beard transplantation is similar to the normal hair transplantation which means the extraction of the donor’s hair from the sides of the hair or the base of your scalp at the back.
  • FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the most common type of beard transplantation surgery. Your cosmetic surgeon selects each individual hair one by one that matches your facial hair and then transplants it into the recipient site.

How is Beard Transplant Done?

The hair selection step is critical since it should match the facial hair with similar characteristics. Smaller incisions are used for beard transplantation.

  • It takes 2-5 hours, depending on the beard density and the area covered. But the procedure is basically painless.
  • On average, you need 500-800 grafts for the mustache, 200-350 grafts for each sideburn, 600-1200 grafts for a full goatee, and 1000-2000 grafts for a cheek beard.
  • Surgeons use two hairs per graft to give a natural look to your beard.

But of course, it is better not to shave the transplanted hair for the first ten days after the transplantation. Be aware that there will be hair fall after a fortnight of your surgery date. You may lose your new beard after 2-3 weeks. It’s totally natural. By the end of three months, you will get your beard back. At times, after the surgery, you may get mild swelling, redness, or small crusts around the newly transplanted hairs. Just an antibiotic ointment can solve the issue.

Is There Any Alternative Method to Beard Transplant Surgery?

Though there are varied alternatives to beard transplants such as Minoxidil administration, hormonal therapy, and beard growth supplements, these options are just temporary. There are a few health risks in the case of hormone therapy.

Men nowadays prefer beards since it is a sign of masculinity. The time has finally come to show your masculinity where you can shave, trim or style your beard or mustache as per your personalized need. But always remember to opt for a permanent, proven solution.

Additionally, choose a reputable cosmetic surgeon and a reputed clinic that can give you the beard you desire. It’s worth the investment and adds value to those who opt for it.
