Also this allows patients to exercise more regularly which makes them more fit to lead a healthy life. ECP helps stimulate the growth of new blood vessels in the heart which is very important and in some cases, improves the flow of existing blood vessels which allows patient to lead a more active life.

This is a very simple procedure and totally non evasive and non drug treatment which means there are practically no side effects. It is a well known fact some people do not react well to operations and recovery takes a long time, plus medications can have side effect which sometimes leads to other complications. This is an outpatient procedure which means no staying at any hospital or clinic for long period of time which reduces health costs.

Dr. Sandeep Bhasin head surgeon at Care Well Medical Centre has always believed in the age old wisdom of “prevention is better than cure”. So if you have more questions or are suffering from CAD/CHD, please book an appointment online or call us.

History of EECP/ECP

Counterpulsation technology was invented by Harken & Associates & Birtwell at Harvard University. It has been cleared for Angina Pectoris, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), Congestive Heart Failure, and Acute Myocardial Infarction. In the 1960, Counterpulsation was a non-invasive technique using a hydraulic system. This increased the survival rate of patients. EECP is a non-surgical procedure that can significantly reduce the chronic symptoms of Angina Pectoris, Coronary Heart Disease (CHD), Coronary Artery Disease(CAD), Congestive Heart Failure and Acute Myocardial Infarction. The EECP procedure is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat congestive heart failure, class 2b, as it is safe and beneficial.

EECP/ECP therapy in Delhi is conducted by a very experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Sandeep Bhasin. He has been a successful Laparoscopic and Cosmetic Surgeon in Delhi with 15 years of experience and treating thousands of patients for Angina and various heart problems with the help of Enhanced External Pulsation (EECP).

The Principle

This method is performed to lower the number of Angina attacks, as it increases the flow and amount of blood getting back to the heart, which helps deliver more oxygen to oxygen depleted areas, thereby decreasing the magnitude of work for the heart to perform, that is to pump blood to the rest of the body. EECP has increased the survival rate of thousands of patients. The treatment is administered around the lower legs, upper legs and buttocks through external inflatable cuffs. This process enhances branches of blood vessels and creates a bypass around blocked areas of the arteries.

The External counter pulsation treatment provides pressure that is electronically timed to increase the flow of blood, the resistance in the blood vessels is released in the legs when the heart pumps again. The blood flow to the heart becomes easier and relieves the chest pressure and pain.

Who is eligible for EECP?

Individuals that are eligible for EECP are:

  • Individuals who have chronic episodes of Angina
  • Individuals who do not get relief with channel blockers & beta blockers
  • Individuals who do not qualify for procedures such as angioplasty, stenting and bypass surgery

Who is not eligible for EECP?

Individuals who are not eligible for EECP are patients with:

  • An elevated heart rate
  • Heart Valve Diseases
  • Pacemakers
  • Arrhythmia
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Inflammation of the vein
  • Pregnant women

Side Effects of EECP

Side effects of EECP include:

  • Dizziness & Fatigue
  • Aches in the Muscle
  • Irritation of the skin
  • Leg Sores

The Enhanced External Pulsation (EECP) procedure

  • The procedure lasts for an hour, with a course of 35 hours that could last for 4 weeks
  • During the procedure the patients are instructed to lie down on a padded table, wherein three electrodes are inserted into the skin of the chest
  • These three electrodes are connected to an ECG machine (Electrocardiograph machine) that measures the rhythm of the heart
  • Doctors also the monitor the blood pressure at regular intervals
  • Cuffs are cloaked around parts of the calves, buttocks, and thighs, this releases the pressure due to deflation as blood moves from the calves to the thighs and buttocks toward the heart
