What are the different types of Modern Hair Transplant Treatments?
New-age hair transplant treatments are of three types- Scalp Reduction, FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). Of these three, FUT and FUE are most common and prevalent across all clinics. However, few clinics also conduct scalp reduction therapy.
Scalp Reduction: – It is a primitive hair transplant technique that still continues to provide credible and effective results. In scalp reduction, hair transplant doctors perform a surgery and remove the scalp from the balding region. Usually, scalp is removed from the crown or the top portion of head. Post-removal of the affected scalp, surgeons stretches the hair-bearing scalp region and covers the patch of scalp that has been removed.
It is the best hair transplant technique for those who have sufficient donor hairs on the sides and the back of their scalp. However, due to its painful experience and other side-effects, it is hardly done in any clinic. In a few cases, surgeons combine scalp reduction with FUT or FUE to achieve the best results.
FUT: – In the last few years, FUT has emerged as one of the popular hair transplant methods for its natural looking hairs along with their natural functionality. In this process, surgeons use high-resolution stereo microscopes and successfully reduce the chances of potential hair damage.
Hair transplantation mainly happens in naturally occurring follicular units. At first, surgeons identify a donor region, remove hair from this site, and then dissect them into smaller follicular units. Then, they harvest the units in medical labs and make them look like a natural follicular unit.
Often, extraction of hair strips from the donor site results in the formation of linear scars, which is why, FUE, is largely preferred to FUT and it is the first choice of every hair transplant surgeon.
FUE: – As the most advanced hair transplant procedure, FUE hardly causes any damage to the donor region. In this procedure, surgeons don’t remove the hair follicle strips, instead, extract them from the sides of back of head and grafts them into the balding region. Thus, there’s no balding strip, people also suffer from less bleeding and have a more comfortable experience. Above all, FUE offers greater flexibility about the hairstyle desired by the candidates.
